Even More Broken Washington Township Promises

Jan 29, 2012 by

Romeo, MI – On October 25th, 2010, representatives from Romeo, Bruce Township and Washington Township signed an agreement for the new Community Media Center. This agreement, titled “Washington Township Municipal Services Agreement For Provision of Community Media Center” outlined the new agreement between Washington and their new customers Romeo & Bruce Township.

In that agreement (amongst other things) is a paragraph that reads:

“An annual audit of the CMC operations will be required of the CMC and will be provided to the Customers” (page 3 – toward the top)

On December 6th, The Romeo Times sent a FOIA request to the Village of Romeo and The Township of Bruce, asking for copies of the audit that should have been received on (or by) October 25th, 2011.

Here is the request we sent to each municipality (replace Bruce Township Supervisor with the correct person for each location):

Per the Document labeled “WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR PROVISION OF COMMUNITY MEDIA CENTER” – Signed on 10-25-2010 by the Bruce Township Supervisor.

“An annual audit of the CMC operations will be required of the CMC and will be provided to the Customers”

  1. Please provide a copy of the CMC audit received in the 12 month period from 10-25-2010 to 10-25-2011.
  2. If an audit was not received in that time period, please provide a copy of the audit that was received between 10-25-2011 and 12-7-2011 and provide the date it was received.

Remember, in the paragraph from the contract above, Romeo and Bruce are “the Customers” of Washington Township. They should have received an audit report from Washington Township and NOT Michigan Community Media.

Neither municipality received an audit.

And Washington Township never received an audit from Michigan Community Media.

As you can imagine, this paragraph was put in the contract to allow some transparency into how the “Community Media Center” is being run, and what kind of financial decisions are being made. Without this audit, who knows what is going on over at the “CMC”?

Recent comments made by Washington Township Supervisor Dan O’Leary, suggest some “rumors” going around about salaries of Michigan Community Media employees, and overspending at the station. He suggested that if anyone had a question about these, they call him at (586) 786-0010. Perhaps the audit report might better assist the public in understanding the state of things.
